Our client is looking for an M&E Asset Engineering Inspector to join our team in Falkirk and play a key role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and long‑term performance of critical M&E assets across the canal network.
- Carry out M&E asset inspections and produce detailed condition reports, serviceability scores, condition grades, and recommendations in line with Asset Inspection Procedures.
- Support the high‑quality delivery of Scottish Canals’ internal M&E inspection programme, including data management and communication with key asset management stakeholders.
- Help ensure legal compliance and the safe operation of M&E equipment across the network.
- Act as Senior Authorised Person, overseeing the lifecycle of M&E systems and equipment.
- Maintain and improve systems to ensure compliance with regulations, Scottish Canals policies and procedures, and key performance indicators.
This is a permanent role with a progressive starting salary of £42,706 – £46,668 (Band E), plus an £850 outdoor working allowance. The post is based on 35 hours per week, worked Monday to Friday.

Primary responsibilities of the role:
- Verify the certification and maintenance records of assets and record such in the Scottish Canals Database system.
- Identify defects, deterioration, or non‑compliance with relevant regulations or standards and ensure improvements are implemented to ensure compliance.
- Perform assessments on asset condition and prioritise necessary repairs or upgrades.
- Produce detailed written reports on inspection findings and asset condition, including any identified risks, maintenance needs, timelines and works for action.
- Provide technical advice during asset replacement and refurbishment projects in collaboration with Design, Construction, and Maintenance Teams to ensure new assets meet operational requirements.
About You
Qualifications and knowledge required:
- Degree (or equivalent) in a related discipline.
- External certification in relevant fields.
- Membership of an appropriate professional body, such as the IEE or IET.
- Mechanical and electrical engineering expertise.
- Knowledge of asset management principles.
- Knowledge of heritage and environmental principles.
Skills and experience required:
- Experience of M&E asset inspections.
- Strong technical reporting skills.
- Previous use of asset management or inspection software.
- Ability to plan and prioritise work effectively.
- Ability to explain engineering concepts to non-engineering audiences.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- General heritage and environmental awareness.

- A full driving licence.
