Our Enquiry Offices are based within police stations across the force area and provide vital front-line support to members of the public, visitors, partner agencies and police staff.

As an Enquiry Officer, you will be based at Burnham-on‑Sea Police Station and will act as a key point of contact for people seeking help, support or guidance.

From the moment the doors open, every day brings something different.

You could be helping someone report a theft, supporting a vulnerable victim of crime, assisting someone experiencing distress or helping manage sensitive enquiries linked to missing persons, fraud, hate crime or sexual offences.

This role requires empathy, resilience and professionalism. You will regularly support people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives and your calm approach could have a significant impact on how supported and safe they feel.

What You’ll Be Doing

Key responsibilities include:

  • Acting as the first point of contact for members of the public, visitors and partner agencies
  • Responding to enquiries face‑to‑face, online and over the phone
  • Supporting vulnerable people and victims of crime with empathy and professionalism
  • Researching and recording information across police systems
  • Managing sensitive and confidential information appropriately
  • Helping to de‑escalate difficult or potentially volatile situations
  • Escalating emergency situations appropriately when police intervention is required

  • Strong communicators with excellent interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable adapting to rapidly changing situations
  • Confident using IT systems and learning new technology
  • Able to manage sensitive and distressing information appropriately

Experience in customer‑facing roles such as reception, hospitality, retail, healthcare or public services would be highly beneficial, although full training will be provided.

Additional language skills or sign language experience would also be welcomed but are not essential.

  • Salary: £27,204 – £29,859 pro rata
