Job Summary
The trauma unit at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital is one of the largest Major Trauma Centres in the UK. Our Trauma unit consists of 2 wards at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital site, wards 410 and 412. Ward 410 is a 36 bedded mixed sex trauma ward, with direct admissions from A&E. The ward provides care for a variety of patients with traumatic injuries, while also working closely with a wide variety of teams and specialities which include Major Trauma Team, Hands and Plastics, Neurosurgery and Cardio Thoracic.
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the 410 team to expand leadership on the ward, having day to day responsibility for its smooth running. Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
You will be assisting the Senior Sister in leading an experienced nursing team, providing clinical support to junior staff, assisting with patient flow, coordinating the management of the ward, optimising operational resources such as staff off duty, annual leave and sickness while acting as a role model to ensure that high quality care is delivered.
The Nursing Team is Friendly, Approachable, Supportive, Dynamic and a vital part of the MDT. This role is ideal for those who have the right strengths and motivators, it’s energising and rewarding. Guidance, support, training and development will be provided in consultation with the dedicated trauma clinical educator.
Qualifications
- Registered Adult Nurse on the NMC register (essential)
- Health care management / leadership qualification (desirable)
Experience
- Substantial post registration experience working in a complex health care setting / acute NHS care setting supervising / mentoring junior staff
- Evidence of professional / clinical knowledge in the area supplemented by specialist clinical and/or managerial training and CPD
- Demonstrated understanding / experience / willingness to be a practice‑based supervisor / assessor as detailed in the Nursing & Midwifery Council (NMC) standards for student supervision and assessment
- Professional portfolio which demonstrates continuing professional development, evidence of ability to maintain professional registration
- Experience of mentoring undergraduate students
- Evidence of ability to lead / coordinate a shift / area of department
- Experience in learning from incidents / complaints and supporting changes in practice
- Demonstrable ability, experience, passion in the following: leadership, team building / managing resources, time management, role modelling, change management / clinical developments, clinical governance, audit and research, workforce planning / management, NHS policy awareness
- Evidence of post graduate education (desirable)
- Relevant and recent clinical experience within the speciality (desirable)

Agenda for Change – Band 6 – Salary: £39,959.00 to £48,117.00 yearly
