Advanced Clinical Practitioner / Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin welcomes applicants from Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners. The service is heading into a new chapter – join us in 2026 and make a difference to children and young people in the area!

This is a developmental role combining clinical practice with academic study. You will be supported to work progressively towards autonomous practice, developing skills in clinical decision‑making, risk management, and, where appropriate, non‑medical prescribing.

You will start in a Band 7 Trainee role and will be supported to complete a relevant master level qualification. Upon successful completion you will progress to a Band 8a.

Main Duties

  • Provide expert assessment, formulation, and treatment for children and young people with complex and urgent mental health needs.
  • Offer specialist advice, support, and education to families, carers, and the wider professional network.
  • Apply advanced clinical knowledge, including physical health, and provide supervision to staff.
  • Lead and support quality improvement, service development, and the implementation of best practice.
  • Identify and manage risk in line with Trust governance processes.
  • Contribute to service objectives as part of the senior leadership team.
  • Lead the development of physical health pathways and support staff training in this area.
  • Drive improvements in patient safety, quality of care, and clinical outcomes.
  • Support workforce development through supervision, training, appraisal, and recruitment.
  • Promote a positive learning culture and contribute to staff and student development.
  • Work collaboratively with children, families, and partner agencies to ensure person-centred care.
  • Contribute to audit, research, and innovation to enhance service delivery.

Qualifications

  • Professional regulated core qualification with the NMC/HCPC.
  • Master level qualification relevant or willingness to undertake training.
  • Qualifications in Project Management and/or Quality improvement.
  • Independent prescriber (V300).

Experience

  • Extensive experience in a senior management/clinical/practitioner leadership role within mental health.
  • High level of clinical expertise in working with children mental health.
  • Extensive experience of working with children in a variety of mental health settings.
  • Experience of service development and transformation.

Skills

  • Knowledge of current national agenda relating to the NHS, social care sector, and children care within mental health.
  • Knowledge of evidence‑based interventions when working with children for a variety of presentations.
  • Knowledge and good understanding of current trends and legislation impacting on services provided to children experiencing mental health presentations.

£49,387 to £56,515 a year, dependent on experience
