The Vascular Nurse Specialist provides expert, patient‑centred care for individuals with vascular conditions across acute and community settings, ensuring high standards of assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management. Working autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team, the role combines advanced clinical practice with leadership, education, and service development to improve patient outcomes. Responsibilities include running nurse‑led clinics, supporting inpatient care, coordinating complex care pathways, and contributing to research and clinical governance. The post holder also plays a key role in advising staff and patients, promoting evidence‑based practice, and driving continuous improvements in vascular services. This post will cover cross‑site working within the organisation.

Main duties of the job

  • Deliver advanced clinical care to patients with vascular conditions, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management within outpatient and inpatient settings.
  • Run nurse‑led clinics, support ward‑based care, request and interpret diagnostic investigations, and make autonomous clinical decisions.
  • Provide specialist advice and education to patients, families, and healthcare professionals.
  • Coordinate care across multidisciplinary teams and community services.
  • Lead service improvements, develop clinical guidelines and pathways, participate in audit and research activities, and contribute to staff training, leadership, and professional development.
