Job Overview
This role provides an exciting opportunity for an experienced clinician to join our dynamic Multi–Disciplinary Orthopaedic Team as an Advanced Specialist Practitioner, delivering high‑quality, patient‑focused care within the upper limb surgical service.
The position supports professional development, innovation, and collaborative practice within a supportive environment.
Main Duties
Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Practice autonomously with a high level of accountability at an advanced clinical level, making critical clinical decisions based on advanced assessment skills.
- Plan and manage complete episodes of care, partnering with others and delegating appropriately to optimise health outcomes and resource use.
- Provide clear leadership and direction to medical, AHP, and nursing teams, modelling a positive image for patients and staff.
- Advocate for a culture of continuous learning and evidence‑based practice, supporting senior leadership in organisational development and succession planning.
- Engage critically in research activity, adhering to good research practice guidance and applying evidence-based strategies to enhance quality, safety, productivity and value for money.
- Use advanced clinical skills to manage patients presenting to the surgical service, including clinical screening for serious pathologies.
- Employ expertise and decision‑making skills to inform clinical reasoning for diverse presentations and complex situations.
- Initiate, evaluate, and modify interventions, including prescribing medicines, therapies, and lifestyle advice.
- Exercise professional judgment to manage risk appropriately, supporting teams to ensure safety for individuals, families and carers.
- Collaborate with multi‑agency and inter‑professional resources, developing, maintaining and evaluating links to manage risk across organisations.
- Act as a clinical role model and advocate for responsive care, informed by local population health needs, agencies and networks.
Person Specification
Qualifications & Education
- Current registration with a relevant professional body.
- MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice or equivalent advanced practice qualification.
- Evidence of continuing professional development within the specialist area.
- Independent/Supplementary Non‑Medical Prescribing (where legally permissible).
- Teaching qualification (e.g., 7307/Certificate in Education) or willingness to undertake one.
- Leadership/Management qualification or willingness to undertake one.
Knowledge & Experience
- Experience delivering pre‑operative and post‑operative care to surgical patients.
- Broad knowledge of orthopaedic and musculo‑skeletal conditions.
- Knowledge of invasive and non‑invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for upper limb conditions.
- Experience managing both acute and chronic pain presentations.
- Proven leadership experience, including service improvement and target delivery.
- Current knowledge of professional and NHS issues and their implications for clinical practice.
- Experience in clinical research.
- Experience managing chronic health issues.
- Advanced knowledge of clinical pathophysiology.
