Main area CAMHS Grade Band 8a – Band 8b Contract Fixed term: 2 years (Or secondment with the potential to be made permanent). Hours: full time or part time. 37.5 hours per week (minimum 30 hours if part time). Job ref 201-26-344-B.

Site: Kernow Building Town, Redruth. Salary £57,528 – £77,368 per annum (pro rata). Closing 03/06/2026 23:59.

Job Overview

WEST CAMHS in Cornwall offers a unique and exciting opportunity for a skilled and motivated Clinical or Counselling Psychologist/Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist to join our friendly, values‑driven service. We welcome applications from experienced Band 8b‑ready psychologists/psychotherapists, as well as those currently working at Band 8a who wish to progress into an 8b leadership role through a structured preceptorship pathway.

You will join WEST CAMHS as either:

  • Band 8b Lead Psychologist/Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, where evidence of 8b‑level readiness and experience is demonstrated.
  • Band 8a Psychologist/Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, with a clear development plan and preceptorship support to progress to Band 8b during the fixed‑term period.

This is a fixed‑term post for 2 years, with the possibility of becoming permanent as the service continues to grow.

If you are an internal candidate seeking a secondment opportunity, please discuss the post with your current line manager and obtain their agreement to release you for the duration of the secondment.

Main Duties of the Job

The main duties will include working with children, adolescents, and their families with complex psychological problems, providing highly specialist psychological assessment and therapy, and advising and consulting with clinical colleagues on client care.

The role requires:

  • Providing clinical supervision and contributing to service strategic developments.
  • Working autonomously within professional guidelines and the team’s policies and procedures.
  • Interdisciplinary and multi‑disciplinary collaboration.
  • Developing supervision skills.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications and Relevant Experience

  • Professional registration with HCPC/ACP.
  • Experience working with children and young people with severe emotional/behavioural difficulties.

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Experience working with children and young people in care.
