Local Authority Childcare Senior Solicitor.

A well-regarded public sector organisation in South Wales is looking to appoint a Senior Childcare Lawyer to join its established Community Services legal team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced childcare solicitor to undertake high-quality, meaningful work advising on complex safeguarding matters, while working as part of a collaborative and highly respected legal team.

The role will involve managing a varied caseload of children’s public law matters, including care proceedings, child protection, adoption, fostering and related education work, as well as providing legal advice on sensitive and time-critical issues.

Responsibilities

• Managing a complex caseload of childcare and safeguarding matters
• Advising on care proceedings, adoption, fostering and related public law matters
• Providing legal advice to internal stakeholders on high-risk and sensitive issues
• Conducting advocacy and/or instructing Counsel where appropriate
• Supporting safeguarding decision-making and risk management
• Contributing to strong governance and effective legal service delivery

Qualifications

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or CILEX with current practising certificate
• Strong experience in children’s public law and care proceedings
• Experience managing complex and contested matters
• Advocacy experience or experience instructing Counsel
• Excellent drafting, advisory and communication skills
• Ability to manage urgent matters with sound judgement and composure
