Locum Consultant in Medicine for the Elderly

Main duties of the job
- Acute frailty services at the front door, in collaboration with the Emergency Department and Acute Medical Team
- A range of specialist clinics supporting older people with complex medical needs
- Inpatient care across three consultant‑led teams on a dedicated ward
- Virtual wards supporting and managing patients in the community
- Support the ongoing development of innovative service models and education opportunities
Professional Qualifications
- Eligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practise
- MRCP(UK) or equivalent
- On GMC Specialist Register for Geriatric Medicine, or at the time of interview within 6 months of expected date of CCT (NB: Non UK-trained doctors must be on the GMC register and Specialist Register in relevant specialty by date of appointment)
- MD/PhD or equivalent
- Postgraduate qualification in management or leadership
Clinical Experience
- Evidence of substantial experience managing complex frail elderly patients.
- Experience working in and leading teams
- Experience in acute / Ortho-geriatric medicine
Clinical Skills
- An understanding of different models of integrated care and the respective roles of hospital and community
- Evidence of working successfully in multidisciplinary teams
- Excellent written and verbal interpersonal skills and communication skills
- A caring attitude towards patients and relatives
- Involvement in professional activities external to the workplace
Clinical Governance Management & IT
- Experience of and involvement in clinical audit.
- Demonstrable understanding of the basic understanding of the principles of clinical governance
- Experience of IT systems relevant to the post
- Clinical Management experience
Teaching and Research
- Evidence of training in teaching methods and participation in teaching at different levels
- Record of publishing peer reviewed publications
Personal Qualities
- Communication; ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/ negotiate.
- Accountability; ability to take responsibility, lead, make decisions and exert appropriate authority.
- Interpersonal Skills; ability to see patients as people, ability to empathise and work co-operatively with others.
- Initiative and leadership: ability to take lead in driving change
