Principal RF Systems Engineer
(Hybrid – Cambridge)
£70,000 – £100,000
An innovative and fast-growing engineering company is looking for a Principal RF Systems Engineer to play a key role in shaping next-generation RF test and measurement technology.
They operate at the cutting edge of RF and digital system design, developing highly advanced products used in complex wireless environments. This is a great opportunity to have real ownership over system architecture while still staying hands-on.
The Role
You’ll take a lead position in defining and delivering RF system solutions, working across both RF and digital domains.
Key responsibilities include:
- Defining RF and digital system architectures for new products
- Designing RF and FPGA-based PCB schematics
- Debugging and resolving issues across prototype builds
- Defining and implementing calibration processes
- Contributing to DSP, firmware or software development
- Providing technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers
This is a genuinely mixed role – ideal for someone who enjoys both big-picture system thinking and hands-on engineering.
What They’re Looking For
They’re open on level, but you’ll likely bring:
Core experience:
- Degree in Electronic Engineering, Physics or similar
- Strong background in RF electronics (GHz range)
- Experience specifying and designing RF systems
- Confident with RF test equipment (VNA, spectrum analyser, etc.)
- Experience debugging high-frequency PCBs
- Understanding of RF performance metrics (NF, IP3, SFDR etc.)
- Comfortable leading projects while remaining hands-on
Nice to have:
- PCB layout experience
- Python for test/automation
- Bluetooth or wireless systems
- Antenna design
- High-speed digital (USB, PCIe)
- FPGA (Xilinx / Verilog / SystemVerilog)
- C++
