Reports to: European Retail Finance Director

Role Purpose

The Finance Director is responsible for ensuring robust financial control, regulatory compliance, and high-quality financial reporting across the business. The role has specific accountability for custodial treasury activities, client money oversight, statutory and government reporting, and management reporting to senior leadership and the Board. The Finance Director supports strategic decision-making through forecasting, budgeting, and performance management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business partner to the Managing Director and Leadership team

Custodial Treasury

  • Oversee custodial treasury activities, aligning appropriate controls over cash management and investments with Group treasury
  • Approval of Investments submitted by the FBP.
  • Build relationships with Banks and Investment Brokers.
  • Review and approve interest calculations relating to tenancy deposits.
  • Review money market and treasury reporting for accuracy and regulatory compliance.

Regulatory, Statutory & Government Reporting

  • Own and oversee six-monthly and annual government and regulatory reporting.
  • Ensure submissions are accurate, timely, and compliant with UK regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain documentation and governance to support regulatory reviews and audits.

Financial Performance, Control & Compliance

  • Provide financial insight and challenge on strategic and commercial initiatives.
  • Monitor operating expenses to ensure expenses are accurately allocated, appropriate accruals are in place where necessary (i.e. bonus accruals), and on budget, highlighting variances and expense trends
  • Review and oversee Control Self Assessments (CSAs) in line with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
  • Ensure effective financial controls are designed, implemented, and operating as intended.
  • Lead a team of appropriately skilled Finance professionals in delivering the provision of real-time support and financial analysis to business directors.
  • Act as a key contact for internal and external audit matters.

Management & Board Reporting

  • Prepare and review monthly flash reporting with clear performance commentary.
  • Lead forecasting and budgeting processes in collaboration with senior stakeholders.
  • Oversee the production of high-quality quarterly Board reports, attending and presenting on performance, risks, opportunities, and key issues.
  • Communicate financial results clearly to senior leadership.

Job Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Strong background in financial control, treasury, and management reporting.
  • Experience with custodial arrangements preferred.
  • Ability to deliver Board-level reporting and communicate with senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment, managing multiple priorities concurrently.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence and persuade senior stakeholders and people with little to no finance understanding is vital.
  • Excellent communication skills – the ability to understand the audience, to analyse data and to deliver information in a clear and understandable manner is critical i.e. a demonstrable ability to explain numbers in “non-financial language”. Confident with ability to constructively challenge to drive performance
