We are seeking an experienced and commercially minded Financial Investigator to join a specialist restructuring and insolvency team working on complex corporate insolvency and assigned debt matters.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a strong insolvency, investigations, or asset recovery background who enjoys forensic financial analysis, case strategy, and working closely with legal professionals to pursue recovery actions.

Reporting directly to Group Head of Legal, you’ll play a key role in reviewing insolvency cases, analysing financial records, and building evidenced claims under the Insolvency Act 1986.

The Opportunity

You’ll be working on a portfolio of insolvency-related investigations involving director conduct, recoverability assessments, and transaction analysis across assigned debt portfolios.

The role offers genuine flexibility, remote working, and the opportunity to work alongside experienced legal and insolvency professionals on high-value and technically interesting cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and investigate Director’s Loan Accounts (DLAs), identifying overdrawn balances and preparing evidenced claims under the Insolvency Act 1986
  • Analyse multi-year bank statement data, categorising transactions and identifying unexplained payments, personal expenditure, misfeasance, or preference claims
  • Interpret company accounting records including Sage exports, trial balances, and supporting financial documentation
  • Assess the strength and recoverability of assigned insolvency claims prior to legal action
  • Prepare concise, well-structured investigation summaries to support solicitor-led recovery proceedings
  • Liaise with insolvency practitioners, accountants, legal teams, and other stakeholders to progress cases efficiently
  • Support strategic decision-making through detailed financial investigation and analysis

About You

You’ll be analytical, detail-oriented, and comfortable handling large volumes of financial information independently in a remote environment.

Essential Experience

  • Strong working knowledge of the Insolvency Act 1986 and corporate/personal insolvency processes
  • Experience in financial investigation, insolvency case administration, asset recovery, or related fields
  • Ability to interrogate bank statements, accounting records, and financial data sets to identify actionable findings
  • Strong report writing and written communication skills
  • Experience working with or alongside legal teams
  • Comfortable working autonomously with minimal supervision

Particularly Relevant Backgrounds

We are especially interested in candidates from one or more of the following backgrounds:

  • Former Insolvency Service investigators or case officers
  • Professionals from the R3 network or insolvency practices
  • Qualified Insolvency Practitioners seeking a more flexible or portfolio-style role
  • Individuals with experience in assigned or purchased debt recovery

Desirable Qualifications

Any of the following would be highly advantageous:

  • ACFS / ACFM
  • CPI (Certificate of Proficiency in Insolvency)
  • ACA / ACCA / AAT
  • Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)

Package & Flexibility

  • £45,000–£52,000 PAYE
  • Up to £325/day contractor rate (Inside IR35 via umbrella)
  • Flexible 3–5 day working arrangement
  • Fully remote UK-based role
  • Open to both permanent and contractor engagements for the right individual

  1. If you enjoy complex investigations, forensic financial analysis, and insolvency-related recovery work — this is an opportunity to join a highly specialist environment with flexibility and meaningful case involvement.
