Job Description
Senior Electro-Optic Development Engineer to join our Development Engineering team at our St Asaph site. This role is critical to supporting New Product Introduction (NPI), sustaining production, and driving continuous improvement across all aspects of engineering. Development Engineering is a core discipline that supports our ability to develop and deliver new (and existing) products in a cost‑effective and timely manner. The primary responsibility is to identify and mitigate technical risks in development projects, taking the lead in developing awareness of technology trends, opportunities, and implementation where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
- Risk reduction – identify and mitigate technical risks through design studies and experimental work.
- Fundamental support to technology development – convert concepts into reality through controlled and structured development tasks.
- Lead and support process definition and improvement and ensure tie‑in between design and manufacturing.
- Create positive working relationships with Design and Manufacturing Engineers to ensure transfer of development projects into production.
- Liaise with customer and supplier contacts on a technical level to achieve programme specifications.
- Generate and maintain technical documentation, engineering reports, and compliance evidence.
- Ensure all development activities comply with company procedures, Health & Safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Support and mentor junior engineers and technicians within the function.
Essential Skills & Experience
- At least a first‑degree level education, preferably in Physics, Mechanical, or Optical Engineering.
- Strong analytical skills and practical ability.
- Strong understanding of optical principles (imaging, alignment, aberrations, tolerancing).
- Strong attention to detail and good interpersonal skills.
- Confidently liaise with customers and suppliers on product specifications and performance matters.
- Success in establishing effective working relationships at all levels.
- Drive and proven ability to work under own initiative.
- Experience troubleshooting complex optical systems and structured problem‑solving skills.
