Senior Specialist – Complex Risks, Supervision (Insurance, Funds and Corporate Authorisations) Department. The Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA) is seeking an experienced and highly credible Senior Leader to join its P&C Supervision Department as a Senior Specialist. Reporting to the Director, the Senior Specialist will provide strategic leadership on complex, cross‑cutting risk and supervisory topics for the P&C sector, shaping supervisory judgement and ensuring consistency across teams.
Responsibilities
- Provide senior leadership, direction and supervisory judgement for the supervision of higher risk and complex insurers and groups.
- Represent BMA in supervisory colleges, crisis management groups, and cross‑border engagements, including international standard‑setting bodies and conferences.
- Ensure supervisory approaches for the P&C sector remain aligned with international standards, best practice, and the Authority’s risk appetite.
- Lead supervisory thinking on actuarial matters – reserving, liquidity risk, and complex structural risk profiles, including non‑traditional and illiquid assets – and work closely with actuarial and investment experts.
- Oversee peer reviews, deep‑dive assessments, and thematic risk reviews of actuarial‑related areas, providing forward‑looking insights to the P&C Team.
- Contribute to the shaping of regulatory approaches and support wider supervision teams on the supervision of the legacy sector, artificial intelligence, and emerging topics, focusing on prudential implications.
- Own and develop BMA’s approach to using insurance market data for market reports, trend analysis, and thematic reviews.
- Lead the development and coordination of specialist expertise, strengthening technical depth and supervisory consistency across the Department.
- Support enforcement and remediation actions where actuarial weaknesses are identified.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in actuarial science, finance, economics, or a related quantitative discipline from a recognised institution.
- Minimum of twelve (12) years of experience, of which at least five (5) years should be in a senior leadership position within the financial services sector and/or with a financial regulatory body.
- Demonstrated experience in the supervision of international active insurance groups.
- Demonstrated experience in cross‑cutting supervisory topics, such as P&C actuarial reviews, recovery planning, asset‑liability management, etc.
