Role Overview
The Children’s Community Orthoptic Service is recruiting an Orthoptist to cover a 9‑month maternity leave. The role is community based across Manchester and Trafford, working in health centres and special schools. It is a self‑directed position requiring exceptional organisational skills and the ability to work independently, without immediate supervision.
Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive, high‑quality Orthoptic Services as an autonomous practitioner, applying professional and departmental guidelines to patients in the community setting.
- Conduct assessment, diagnosis and management of new and follow‑up paediatric patients with strabismus, ocular motility disorders and amblyopia, including those with SEND.
- Carry out single‑handed community paediatric orthoptic/refraction clinics and special school clinics.
- Support paediatric ophthalmology clinics at Trafford General Hospital as required.
