Position Overview

At Exact Sciences, part of Abbott’s Oncology Diagnostics division, we are redefining cancer care by combining Abbott’s global reach with leading expertise in cancer screening and precision oncology—advancing earlier detection, personalized treatment, and improved patient outcomes. The Principal Medical Affairs, UK & Ireland role is responsible for medical affairs activities in one of the most important markets across International and is based in our London office.

Representing the medical function, the Principal Medical Affairs manages research and educational medical objectives, supporting commercial business and reimbursement goals for the Oncotype DX portfolio, most notably the Oncotype DX Breast Cancer Assay. Near‑term objectives include supporting growth of the breast assay by providing direct market support. The role also adds value through medical information, education and scientific exchange with Medical Oncology, Surgeons, Pathology Key Opinion Leaders, and other healthcare professionals. In the long term, the position may support other new product introductions in oncology and assist the company’s R&D and investigator‑initiated studies in the development and commercialization of genomic assays that improve treatment decisions for oncology patients.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a Medical Affairs Strategic Plan for the market, including plans for Key Opinion Leader engagement, educational and guideline initiatives, and reimbursement initiatives that align with business objectives.
  • Support medical education, reimbursement needs, and physician customer support.
  • Identify and engage international, national, and regional thought leaders in breast cancer and colorectal cancer within the market to conduct scientific discussions and understand insights related to molecular diagnostics in early breast cancer management, while also maintaining professional relationships with them.
  • Act as the primary contact for investigators interested in developing and performing studies with the company’s commercially available assays in breast cancer.
  • Assist or lead in R&D and investigator‑initiated studies (e.g., Decision Impact studies) as appropriate.
  • Lead national and regional Advisory Boards when external advice is needed.
  • Execute international medical education and support marketing in accurate, unbiased material development.
  • Provide clinical presentations and information in academic, community, and healthcare provider settings in both group and one‑on‑one situations.
  • Provide medical review and edits for all medical, educational, and promotional materials.
  • Partner with the regional team to deliver key medical activities.
  • Develop medical slides, give medical training presentations, and train in internal meetings.
  • Support local access & reimbursement with medical and scientific expertise.
  • Assure compliance with relevant corporate policies and European regulatory requirements.
  • Provide feedback and medical input to local commercial plans and strategies.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree in Medicine/Medical Doctor or PhD, PharmD.
  • 3+ years of therapeutic clinical experience desired.
  • 6 to 8 years of industry experience (pharma, biotech, med‑tech).
  • Expertise in Oncology; experience in breast/GI/lung cancer is a plus.
  • Extensive experience in managing KOLs.
  • Experience in relevant geographies is a plus.
  • Excellent English mandatory.
  • Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills.
  • Ability to independently deliver quality results in a timely manner.
  • Proven record of working in a matrix environment and delivering as part of a cross‑functional team.
  • Track record of delivering innovative medical activities within/across markets.
  • Legal authorization to work in the country of employment without current or future sponsorship.
