About the role

Senior Electrical Engineer – Balfour Beatty (@one Alliance)

Location: Peterborough/East Anglia

Balfour Beatty is a leading partner in the Anglian Water one Alliance, a collaboration that delivers around 40% of the water utility’s capital investment. We are entering AMP8, pursuing nature‑based, sustainable solutions such as wetlands and urban drainage schemes, setting global benchmarks in environmental infrastructure.

As a Senior Electrical Engineer you will provide engineering technical direction to discipline engineers, support design for schemes, ensure designs meet legislation and standards, review deliverables from Alliance and supply chain, coach junior engineers, and ensure compliance with quality and safety processes.

What you’ll be doing

  • Report regularly to the Principal Engineer.
  • Collaborate with Principal Engineer, Portfolio Design Managers and Project Design Managers to secure upcoming project milestones and design review dates.
  • Check specifications, schedules, datasheets, drawings and 3‑D models to ensure quality, safety and technical standards.
  • Coach and mentor junior and less experienced members of the electrical team.
  • Review construction site and supply chain design queries and change requests to provide accurate responses while maintaining suitability of designs.
  • Participate in Construction Design Management (CDM) and commissioning strategy meetings.
  • Update and collaborate with the Principal Engineer and Design Managers to implement potential improvements.
  • Liaise with other departments and project teams regarding design requirements.
  • Manage quality through the design workflow review in line with the project timeline.
  • Support other leads and discipline engineers to deliver outputs on time and to quality standards.
  • Drive sustainability and low‑carbon designs.
  • Promote off‑site build, modular construction and repeatable solutions.

Who we’re looking for

  • Engineering‑level degree or equivalent experience, and preferably Chartered or working toward Chartered status.
  • Experience with water‑sector assets and capital projects.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant regulations, standards and codes of practice.
  • Experience in leadership, mentoring and coaching junior engineers.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills.
