Job Description:

Responsibilities

  • Calibrate and maintain patient‑care equipment including life support, patient monitoring, patient therapy, diagnostic, ventilatory and anaesthetic equipment.
  • Provide support to a variety of electrical, electronic, mechanical and oxygen therapy equipment, carrying out planned preventive maintenance, repair, calibration and acceptance testing.
  • Liaise with consultant medical and nursing ward staff, associated healthcare professionals and technical staff to identify faults and repair equipment, including working in clinical areas with intermittent patient contact.
  • Use appropriate test equipment and take responsibility for its safety, ensuring compliance with protocols for type and range of equipment.
  • Complete planned preventive maintenance to the specified schedule.
  • Attend wards and departments within the Trust, Primary Care Trusts and other organisations to perform equipment maintenance and carry out non‑scheduled repairs, including frequent movement of heavy items of medical equipment.
  • Clarify all issues affecting required maintenance and their impact on the delivery of clinical services.
  • Cooperate with the implementation of departmental policies and procedures, and propose changes that may impact other professions.
  • Act on relevant safety notices received from the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), engineering updates and modifications, liaising with other healthcare professionals to ensure timely execution.
  • Assist with the investigation of adverse incidents relating to medical devices and report potential incidents when identified.
