Employment Solicitor – Northamptonshire Police

Up to £66,648 | Northampton | Hybrid Working

This is a rare opportunity to join a brand new, growing in-house legal team at Northamptonshire Police, working on genuinely varied public sector work in a culture that is friendly, collaborative, and refreshingly down-to-earth.

The Role

Your primary focus will be employment law. You will manage a caseload of Employment Tribunal matters and provide day-to-day advisory support to the HR team across the full range of employment issues, including policies, procedures, and grievances.

You will also have the opportunity to support on police misconduct matters, inquests, and coronial work. No prior experience in these areas is required; full training will be provided. You will be well supported, with both paralegal and administrative assistance in place.

Why This Role Stands Out

The team is at an exciting stage of its development, and there is real scope to broaden your expertise and contribute to shaping how legal services are delivered across the organisation.

The culture matters here. This is a team that socialises together and works collaboratively, and they are looking for someone who fits that ethos: personable, direct, and happy to pick up the phone.

What You Will Need

You will be a qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of CILEx with solid experience in employment law. You will be confident advising stakeholders at all levels, comfortable communicating pragmatically, and open to developing your practice into new areas.

The Package

  • Hybrid working: one to two days per week at Wootton Hall, Northampton
  • Flexitime: hours worked over 37 per week accrue as additional leave
  • Free on-site parking
  • 25 days annual leave, rising to 30 days after three years’ continuous service
