Equans is looking for an Operational Performance Supervisor to join our team at Birmingham on a permanent basis. This is a full‑time role working 37.5 hours per week. On offer is a competitive salary and benefits package.
The role will cover our Birmingham schools contract; the postholder will ensure the security, maintenance, and availability of the education premises, including its furniture, fittings, equipment, and mechanical and electrical assets. To maintain a safe and satisfactory physical environment for all users, and to promote the efficient use of the Council’s assets in support of the educational objectives of the establishment as well as the activities of other site users.
The Operational Performance Supervisor will support the Operational Performance Manager in ensuring full compliance, strong operational standards, and cohesive team performance across multiple sites and provide guidance to on‑site teams, ensuring the smooth and efficient running of all daily operations. Acting as the on‑site representative for Equans, building positive relationships and ensuring a professional presence for the school to ensure sites are consistently clean, safe and well‑presented site environment and deliver a flexible and responsive service that reflects local needs, accommodates specific client requests, and supports any additional duties agreed with the Operational Performance Manager.
What will you deliver?
- Provide effective line management and leadership to Caretakers and Site Managers across designated Birmingham school sites
- Deliver day‑to‑day operational performance, ensuring the delivery of PPM, reactive maintenance and remedial works to agreed standards
- Monitor subcontractor activity, ensuring compliance with approved RAMS and full adherence to company procedures and statutory requirements
- Coordinate staffing across sites, including managing sickness and absence, approving annual leave, and ensuring appropriate cover is maintained at all times
- Ensure all tasks are accurately raised and recorded within the helpdesk system, with consistent adherence to established processes
- Manage and drive the timely completion of open jobs across allocated site(s), preventing SLA failures and avoiding associated financial penalties
- Promote and embed a strong health and safety culture, ensuring all employees and subcontractors work safely and comply with all relevant regulations
- Carry out Management Safety Visits, ensuring safety observations and near‑miss reports are captured and recorded within AIMS
- Provide operational support during emergency situations, including fire evacuations, and operate fire panels/systems when required
- Assist with the provision of technical site information, including drawings, measurements and other relevant details
- Ensure all Authority Damage documentation is fully completed, signed and submitted to the administration team each month
- Work flexibly to meet operational needs, including occasional overtime or weekend support for lettings and additional school requirements

Who are we looking for?
- IOSH Managing Safely
- Experience of managing direct reports
- Experience in an education environment
- First Aid Training
- Strong understanding of building services compliance
- Demonstrated experience in safe working practices, including safeguarding children and vulnerable adults
- Ability to plan, prioritise and manage workload effectively, using initiative when required
- Capable of handling varied tasks with accuracy and attention to detail
- Highly motivated, adaptable and able to multitask, while contributing positively to the team
- A strong “can‑do” attitude
- Effective communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently at all levels
This role includes a DBS Enhanced check; therefore ability to pass is essential.
