Business Intelligence Manager

West Midlands | Hybrid

£65,000 – £75,000

Permanent

We’re supporting an established organisation with the appointment of a BI Manager into a newly shaped role focused on improving the way senior leadership uses data to make commercial and operational decisions.

The business operates across multiple locations and has a complex operational environment, with several systems and reporting processes already in place. The focus now is to bring greater structure, consistency, and visibility to business performance reporting.

This is a hands-on role with a high level of ownership. The successful person will take responsibility for improving reporting across the business, building practical dashboards, consolidating existing data sources, and helping stakeholders understand what the data is telling them.

You will work closely with senior leaders and operational teams to understand reporting needs, improve the quality of management information, and turn data into clear, useful insight. The role will suit someone who is technically strong, commercially aware, and comfortable working in an environment where not everything is already perfectly defined.

The Role

You will be responsible for designing, building, and improving dashboards, reports, and data models that support better decision-making across the business.

Much of the current data sits across Excel, operational systems, and existing business processes, so the role will involve bringing structure, consistency, and clarity to reporting. You will need to understand what different teams are trying to achieve, ask the right questions, and turn sometimes messy or fragmented data into insight that people can actually use.

You will report into the finance leadership team, who will help guide priorities and connect you with the right people across the business. However, this is a role that requires a high degree of self-management. You will need to be comfortable owning the brief, setting direction, and driving progress independently.

This is a hands-on role initially, but there is genuine scope for it to grow over time. As the business continues to develop its data capability, the successful person will have the opportunity to help shape the foundations of a more mature data and reporting function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain Power BI dashboards and management reporting tools.
  • Improve the consistency, reliability, and usability of business reporting.
  • Work with stakeholders across finance, operations, commercial, and regional teams to understand reporting needs.
  • Bring together data from Excel, operational systems, and other business sources into clear, structured reporting.
  • Translate data into practical insight that helps senior leaders understand performance, risks, and opportunities.
  • Identify gaps in current reporting processes and recommend sensible improvements.
  • Ensure dashboards and reports are accurate, timely, and easy for non-technical users to understand.
  • Support the business in moving away from fragmented or manual reporting where possible.
  • Help lay the foundations for a more scalable data and reporting environment.
  • Travel to other sites where needed to engage with teams and understand business processes first-hand.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong experience in a Data Analyst, BI Analyst, BI Manager, Reporting Manager, or similar role.
  • Advanced Power BI skills, including data modelling, DAX, and dashboard design.
  • Experience working with Excel-based data and multiple operational or business systems.
  • Strong understanding of how data supports commercial and operational decision-making.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders.
  • Confidence gathering requirements and challenging where needed.
  • Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of a broad brief.
  • Practical, hands-on approach with the ability to make progress without everything being perfectly defined.
  • Strong attention to detail and pride in producing accurate, reliable reporting.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience in a complex operational, manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, or multi-site business.
  • SQL, Python, R, or broader data engineering/reporting experience.
  • Exposure to automation, AI-assisted analysis, or machine learning would be beneficial, but is not essential.
  • Full UK driving licence, as occasional travel to regional sites may be required.

Why This Role?

This is a strong opportunity for someone who wants more ownership than a traditional BI role, but does not want to step into a heavily corporate or over-layered data environment.

You will have the chance to build something meaningful, influence senior stakeholders, and create reporting that has a visible impact on business decisions.

For the right person, the role has clear long-term growth potential as the business continues to develop its data capability.
