Plumbing and Gas Coach (Full-Time)

Salary: £39,319.00 – £41,521.00 per annum
Contract: Full-Time, Permanent
ABOUT THE ROLE
Barking & Dagenham College is seeking a skilled and passionate Plumbing and Gas Coach to join our Construction and Engineering department. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality teaching, training, and assessment to learners pursuing qualifications in plumbing and gas installation.
You will play a key role in developing learners’ technical skills, industry knowledge, and employability, ensuring they are fully prepared for successful careers within the plumbing and gas sector.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Deliver engaging and effective teaching sessions in Plumbing and Gas qualifications (Level 1–Level 3 or equivalent).
- Plan, prepare, and assess learning activities in line with awarding body standards.
- Coach and mentor learners to develop practical skills in plumbing installation, maintenance, and gas safety.
- Support learners in achieving qualifications, including NVQs and apprenticeships.
- Carry out workplace assessments and progress reviews for apprentices where required.
- Ensure all training complies with current Gas Safe regulations and industry standards.
- Maintain accurate learner records, tracking progress, attendance, and achievement.
- Promote health and safety practices within workshops and training environments.
- Work closely with employers, industry partners, and internal teams to support learner success.
- Contribute to curriculum development and continuous improvement of teaching delivery.
- Support learners with career development, employability skills, and progression routes.
PERSON SPECIFICATION – REQUIREMENTS
To be considered for the role of Plumbing and Gas Coach, candidates must meet the following essential criteria:
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Hold a Level 3 qualification in Plumbing & Gas (or equivalent industry-recognised qualification).
- Hold a Level 3 Assessor qualification (e.g. CAVA, A1, or equivalent Assessors Award).
- Possess a recognised qualification in coaching or mentoring.
- Demonstrable industry experience in plumbing and gas installation, maintenance, or related trades.
- Proven experience working within a training provider, FE college, or apprenticeship setting, delivering training and/or assessing apprentices.
- Strong understanding of apprenticeship frameworks, assessment standards, and competency-based learning.
- Ability to assess learners in both workshop and real workplace environments.
- Full UK driving licence, with willingness to travel to employer sites and apprentice workplaces.
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
- Hold a recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, DET, CertEd, or equivalent).
- Experience delivering or supporting vocational education and training programmes in Further Education.
- Familiarity with Ofsted standards, quality assurance processes, and apprenticeship funding rules.
- Experience working closely with employers and industry partners to support learner progression.
