Job Description:

About Our Client

Our client is a high-growth payments business with a proven product, significant market share and repeat revenues, an expanding client base, and the commercial momentum to match. They’ve built something that works — now they need the leadership to scale it.

This is a business at an exciting and critical juncture. The foundations are strong, the market opportunity is significant, and the backing is in place. What they need now is a General Manager to bring it all together and take the business to the next level.

The Role

This is a rare and genuinely broad GM role — one that spans commercial, operations, and product, with a singular focus on scaling the business. Reporting directly to the CEO, you’ll effectively run the day-to-day of the organisation while owning the growth agenda. You’ll be the connective tissue between functions, the person who keeps execution tight while the business moves fast, and the leader who builds the team and culture capable of sustaining that pace.

This isn’t a role for a functional specialist who wants to stay in their lane. It’s for someone who thrives in the full picture — equally energised by closing a major client, fixing a process that’s starting to creak at the seams, and working with product on what gets built next.

What You’ll Be Doing

Commercial & Revenue

  • Own the revenue number — setting targets, driving pipeline, and holding the commercial team accountable for delivery
  • Lead and develop the sales and account management function, building a team that can win new business and grow existing relationships
  • Define go-to-market strategy for new products and market segments, working closely with product and marketing to execute it
  • Build and maintain senior client relationships, getting involved directly where the stakes are highest

Operations

  • Take ownership of the operational backbone of the business — ensuring delivery, onboarding, support, and compliance functions are running efficiently and scaling in line with growth
  • Identify and address operational bottlenecks before they become problems, building the processes, tooling, and team structures needed to support the next stage of scale
  • Maintain a strong grip on operational risk, working with compliance and legal to ensure the business operates to the highest standards as it grows
  • Drive the reporting and performance management frameworks that give leadership and the board clear visibility of what’s working and what isn’t

Product

  • Act as the commercial voice in product — ensuring what gets built is grounded in customer need, market opportunity, and revenue potential
  • Work closely with the CPO or Head of Product to prioritise the roadmap, balancing short-term commercial demands with longer-term strategic bets
  • Lead the commercial launch of new products, owning the go-to-market from positioning through to adoption
  • Feed market intelligence, client feedback, and competitive insight back into the product process continuously

Scaling the Business

  • Build the leadership team around you — identifying gaps, hiring well, and developing people who can grow with the business
  • Work with the CEO and board on the growth strategy, translating ambition into actionable plans with clear milestones and accountability
  • Act as a cultural anchor as the business scales — maintaining the speed and hunger of a start-up while introducing the structure and discipline of a more mature organisation

What They’re Looking For

  • Significant experience in a GM, or C level role , or similarly broad leadership role within payments, fintech, or financial services — you know this industry and understand what scaling a business in it actually requires
  • A proven commercial track record — you’ve owned revenue targets, built pipelines, and led teams that consistently deliver against them
  • Operational depth — you understand how high-growth businesses break under pressure and you know how to fix them before they do
  • Experience working closely with product teams, with the commercial instinct to help shape what gets built and the credibility to influence without controlling
  • A strong people leader who attracts talent, develops it, and creates teams with high standards and high output
  • Equally comfortable in the boardroom and the weeds — able to present strategy to investors one day and solve an operational problem with the team the next
  • A self-starter with high energy, sound judgement, and the resilience to thrive in a fast-moving, high-ambition environment
