Nottingham University Hospital NHS Trust (NUH) is looking for a full‑time 12‑month fixed‑term Stroke Consultant Physician to join an existing team of 10 NHS and academic consultants. NUH is a Comprehensive Stroke Centre for the East Midlands, providing Endovascular, Neurosurgical services, 24/7 Thrombolysis and Hyperacute Care. The successful applicant will play a key part in developing the existing stroke pathway and providing consultant input to hyper‑acute stroke, acute stroke, intensive rehabilitation and continuing stroke rehabilitation.
Main duties of the job
- 16 bedded hyper‑acute stroke unit at QMC campus
- 34 bedded acute rehabilitation stroke unit at QMC campus
- 18 bedded long‑term rehabilitation stroke unit at City campus and 6 beds in Connect House (further rehab beds)
- A 7 day Fast Track TIA clinic
- 24/7 thrombolysis service supported by telemedicine
- A regional Mechanical Thrombectomy service
- Regional Neurosurgical service provision
Person specification
Teaching, Audit & Research
- Evidence of participation in Clinical Audit.
- Able to teach and support junior staff effectively
- Original Research Publications
- Higher teaching degree or qualification or training
Professional registration
- Full GMC registration with Licence to Practise
Professional Qualifications
- MBBS
- Full MRCP
- Higher professional degree
Clinical Skills/Experience
- Extensive experience in Stroke Medicine.
- Experience in hyper‑acute stroke care and trained and experienced in thrombolysis.
- Comprehensive knowledge of current issues in general internal medicine.
- Specific training in communication skills
- Specific training in patient safety and/or human factors
Management Skills
- Proven leadership skills, able to lead a team effectively.
- Able to develop, present and operationalise coherent ideas for service development/delivery
- Experience of change management
- Higher management degree or qualification or training
