We have a great opportunity for a dynamic and motivated Senior / Principal Hydrogeologist specialising in contaminated land and brownfield development, engineering hydrogeology, or to join our Sustainable Land and Resource Management Practice.

Based at our Exeter, Bristol, Birmingham, Cambridge, Epsom or London office (with flexible hybrid working), you will be part of an award‑winning group of hydrogeology and contaminated land experts delivering innovative brownfield solutions to major UK infrastructure projects across transportation, energy, buildings and places and water markets.

Your Role

  • Providing technical guidance, constructive support and mentoring to junior staff.
  • Delivering contaminated land projects and hydrogeological aspects of multi‑disciplinary projects.
  • Reviewing and providing technical oversight of complex numerical groundwater models.
  • Project managing and delivering a wide variety of projects, including managing finances and programme delivery.
  • Organising, managing and checking site work.
  • Liaising with clients, stakeholders, regulators, sub‑contractors and other internal disciplines.
  • Supporting senior management in developing new business and preparing commercial offers.
  • Preparing H&S plans for site investigations and managing health and safety.
  • Developing own competence and maintaining CPD necessary to fulfil the responsibilities of the role, with support from the business on training and development needs.

About You

  • Degree qualified in a relevant engineering or science subject (e.g. hydrogeology, geology, chemistry, environmental science).
  • MSc or PhD in hydrogeology or related subject is preferable.
  • Chartered Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. Geological Society, ICE or CIWEM). If not chartered, the candidate should be able to become chartered within 6‑12 months of joining.
  • Substantial demonstrable experience as an environmental consultant within consultancy, industry, regulatory or academic fields with a track record of delivering work, client management and stakeholder liaison.
  • Demonstrated understanding of UK hydrogeology and the environmental and regulatory framework of UK water management.
  • Demonstrated experience of groundwater modelling packages such as P20, ConSim, LandSim, RAM, MODFLOW, FEFLOW, SEEP/W.
  • Commercial awareness, including the ability to complete tenders.
  • Experience handling large data sets, developing graphic representations of data or finding new digital ways of working.
  • Skills in GIS, computer programming, engineering geology or hydrogeology are an advantage.
  • Full UK driving licence.

  • Security clearance – this role may require security clearance; offers will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If required, this will be discussed during the interview.
