Role Details

Band 7 Clinical Team Lead Physiotherapist – Respiratory Medicine

Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh – 36 hours per week, Temporary contract – 12 months

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver and develop physiotherapy services across a 46-bedded inpatient ward and the respiratory outpatient service, including chest clearance and breathing retraining for patients with complex acute and chronic respiratory conditions.
  • Clinically lead and further develop the Respiratory Medicine Physiotherapy service, ensuring high-quality, patient-centred care.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership and management for a team of Physiotherapists and Physiotherapy Support Workers, including supervision, mentorship, appraisal of staff and students and effective multidisciplinary team working.
  • Participate in the emergency duty weekend working rota (5-day out of 7) and overnight on-call rota, engaging in quality improvement work, service development and ongoing clinical improvement within the unit.
  • Gain extensive and in-depth experience as a Band 7 Clinical Team Lead / Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in Respiratory Medicine.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Extensive clinical experience within respiratory medicine and across acute inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Excellent clinical reasoning skills in the management of both acutely unwell patients and those with long-term respiratory conditions.
  • Advanced skills in prioritisation, discharge planning and caseload management.
  • Experience in managing outpatient waiting lists is desirable.
  • Strong leadership and organisational skills, with experience of supervision, mentorship, appraisal of staff and students, and effective multidisciplinary team working.

Regulatory Requirements

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (child and/or adult) an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.

Due to legislative changes from 1 April 2025 this post may require a different level of criminal records check than is currently the case. If the post is assessed as a “regulated role”, the appointment will be subject to joining the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme. Any changes to what is currently required will be confirmed by either the Hiring Manager or the Recruitment Team.
