Procurement Engineer

Location: Oxfordshire

Rate: 40 per hour (Umbrella)

Contract: 12 Months

Role Overview

We are currently seeking an experienced Procurement Engineer to join a leading global organisation at the forefront of healthcare innovation. Based in Oxfordshire, this is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting‑edge medical imaging technology that improves access to healthcare worldwide.

As a Procurement Engineer, you will take ownership of a diverse portfolio of globally sourced components, driving long‑term sourcing strategies and ensuring a resilient and cost‑effective supply chain. This role offers a high level of autonomy and the opportunity to influence strategic sourcing decisions within a collaborative, international environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a technical interface between Procurement, R&D, and suppliers, supporting cost analysis throughout the product lifecycle
  • Drive cost optimisation initiatives including:
    • Cost Value Engineering (CVE)
    • Should‑cost modelling
    • Benchmarking and target costing
  • Support product development by providing cost estimates and manufacturing recommendations
  • Partner with Procurement teams during supplier negotiations through data‑driven insights
  • Develop and standardise cost optimisation methodologies and tools
  • Contribute to procurement transformation initiatives and digitalisation programmes
  • Collaborate with global stakeholders across the UK, Germany, China, and international supplier base

Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline
  • Proven experience in engineering and/or procurement with strong supplier engagement
  • Strong technical knowledge of electro‑mechanical components and manufacturing processes such as:
    • Sheet metal fabrication
    • Machining and casting
    • Composite structures
    • Mechanical assemblies and cable assemblies
  • Demonstrated expertise in cost analysis, cost structures, and value engineering

  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to solve complex problems
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Confident working in cross‑functional and international teams
  • Strong negotiation and influencing capabilities
  • Proactive, self‑motivated, and able to work independently
  • Willingness to travel internationally (up to 20%)
