University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is offering an exciting Consultant position within the Haematology Team, focusing on myeloma, plasma cell disorders, and general haematology. The role involves clinical care, research, and participation in both the autologous transplant service and clinical trials.
Main duties of the job
Key responsibilities include:
- Management of patients with myeloma and related disorders in inpatient, day‑case, and outpatient settings, including those undergoing autologous stem cell transplant.
- Active involvement in recruitment and management of myeloma patients within clinical trials.
- Triage and outpatient management of general haematology patients.
- Inpatient attendance on a 1:3.5 basis covering combined haematology (myeloma, myeloid and non‑malignant cases) with support from subspecialty colleagues.
- Participation in a 1 in 7 combined haematology on‑call rota.
- Oversight of liaison, referral, and diagnostic pathways for primary care and the wider hospital.
Person specification
Qualifications, Training & Experience
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- GMC registration with a licence to practise.
- Appropriate knowledge base and clinical judgement.
- MRCP and FRCPath (or equivalent).
- CCT (haematology) or within 6 months of obtaining CCT on date of interview.
- Recognised educational supervisor training.
- Publications relating to haematology.
Aptitudes and skills
- Evidence of effective teamwork in multi‑professional settings.
- Understanding of equality and diversity principles.
- Strong communication and liaison skills (verbal and written in English).
- Good organisational skills, ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
- Calm, compassionate and efficient under changing circumstances.
- Evidence of participation in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
- Clinical experience and competence in haematology at consultant level.
- Specific experience or training in myeloma.
- Evidence of service improvement projects.
