About the FCA and Team
The FCA regulates financial services firms in the UK, keeping financial markets fair, thriving and effective. The Appointed Representatives department works to reduce harm by improving oversight of principal firms and driving stronger conduct standards.
The selected candidate will provide support to a blind manager as part of a reasonable adjustment. Key aspects include using FCA systems on the manager’s behalf, reading aloud written documents, proofing and re‑typing material for laptop accessibility, and providing additional physical support when the manager is present in the office.
Role Responsibilities
- Review the manager’s calendar and request meeting or event materials in advance.
- Plan time to read papers aloud to the manager, re‑format, and re‑type material as needed.
- Set aside time to complete administrative tasks with the manager using FCA systems.
- Take ownership of information received and store it correctly in line with FCA policies.
- Manage two managers’ diaries, including booking meetings, rooms, identifying clashes, and ensuring relevant papers are prepared.
- Conduct ad‑hoc tasks such as taking minutes at internal and external meetings, sometimes of a confidential nature.
- Arrange travel for external meetings.
- Assist with departmental recruitment: sending case studies, arranging interview slots, and preparing candidate packs.
Skills Required
Minimum:
- Prior experience in a support function or supporting a sighted individual.
- Experience managing key administrative tasks using Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
- Handling confidential information with discretion; prioritising and meeting tight deadlines.
Essential:
- Demonstrable ability supporting a sighted individual and responding to queries as they arise.
- Effective written and spoken communication for various audiences.
- Confidence engaging a wide range of internal and external contacts.
- Skilled organisational, administrative, and time‑management abilities.
- Willingness to manage shifting priorities and situations.
- Attention to detail under tight deadlines.
- Team‑oriented approach, efficiently organising tasks and collaborating with others.
