Job Role & Key Responsibilities:

We’re recruiting for an Asset Care Engineer to join a fast-paced FMCG manufacturing environment on a permanent basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for an engineer who enjoys improving asset performance, reducing downtime, and supporting continuous improvement across automated production and packaging lines.You’ll play a key role in maintaining and improving the reliability, safety, and performance of site machinery, utilities, and infrastructure while supporting both planned and reactive maintenance activities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out planned, preventative, predictive, and reactive maintenance across production machinery, utilities, and site equipment.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control system faults to minimise downtime.
  • Work on automated filling, bottling, packaging, labelling, conveyor, palletising, and utility systems.
  • Support installation, commissioning, shutdowns, inspections, and engineering project work.
  • Maintain equipment including pumps, valves, bearings, belts, seals, motors, sensors, control panels, and PLC-controlled machinery.
  • Follow Health, Safety, Environmental, Quality, LOTO, Permit to Work, and statutory compliance procedures.
  • Apply Lean tools such as TPM, RCA, PDCA, 5S, and 5-Why to improve reliability and performance.
  • Record maintenance activity, spare parts usage, and asset information accurately using SAP PM or similar systems.
  • Work closely with production and engineering teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.

The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Proven engineering maintenance experience within manufacturing, FMCG, food, beverage, packaging, or a similar fast-paced environment.
  • Strong mechanical and/or electrical fault-finding skills.
  • Experience working with automated production machinery and utility systems.
  • Knowledge of PLCs, preferably Siemens S7, along with HMI, SCADA, sensors, motors, and control panels.
  • A minimum NVQ Level 3 qualification in an Engineering discipline.
  • A time-served apprenticeship in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automation Engineering.
  • Strong understanding of Health & Safety, Food Safety, quality standards, risk assessments, LOTO, and permit-to-work processes.
  • Good communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
  • A proactive continuous improvement mindset.

Desirable Skills:

  • HNC or equivalent engineering qualification.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations certification.
  • Experience using SAP PM or similar maintenance management systems.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Operational Excellence tools, including TPM, RCM, RCA, 5S, and 5-Why.
  • Experience working with pneumatics, hydraulics, mechanical drive systems, instrumentation, and calibration.
  • IT skills including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
