£67,993 – £78,542 per annum, Permanent, Full-time, Multi‑site NHS acute hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee the delivery of Medical Engineering Services, ensuring high‑quality, safe and efficient services are delivered within available resources.
- Provide professional leadership and expert technical advice on medical equipment testing, calibration, maintenance, repair, replacement and obsolescence planning.
- Ensure compliance with relevant statutory requirements, national guidance and regulatory expectations for medical equipment management.
- Develop, approve and review medical device policies, procedures and practices, ensuring alignment with organisational governance arrangements.
- Lead medical equipment risk management, ensuring appropriate controls, escalation and assurance within corporate risk and audit frameworks.
- Oversee the management of safety alerts, recalls and hazard notices, ensuring timely implementation and assurance reporting.
- Monitor service performance and compliance, producing assurance and performance reporting for senior leadership and governance forums.
- Ensure medical equipment requirements are embedded within procurement, service contracts and capital programmes, supporting value for money and technical compliance.
- Support capital and financial planning for medical equipment replacement and lifecycle investment, including business cases and prioritisation.
- Provide expert advice to senior clinical and operational stakeholders on medical equipment strategy and service delivery.
- Lead workforce planning, succession planning and performance management to maintain sustainable capability and service resilience.
- Represent the organisation in engagement with external regulators, auditors, suppliers and professional bodies, including during high‑risk or complex situations.
Ideal Candidate
- Significant senior leadership experience within medical engineering or a comparable technical/engineering discipline in a regulated environment.
- Strong strategic and operational leadership capability within a safety‑critical technical service.
- In‑depth knowledge of medical equipment governance, compliance and risk management in a healthcare environment.
- Proven ability to provide authoritative technical advice to senior leaders and governance forums.
- Strong financial and commercial awareness, including budget management and value‑for‑money decision making.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical information for non‑technical audiences.
- Educated to Master’s degree level (or equivalent experience) in a relevant engineering or medical engineering discipline, with evidence of leadership/management training.
