Building Control Manager

Job Summary

Grade L £54,495 to £59,005, Permanent contract. Interview date to be confirmed.

Essential Requirements

• Current valid UK driving licence.
• Degree level education in Building Control, Building Surveying, Construction or equivalent learning.
• Full corporate membership of CABE, RICS, CIOB or equivalent professional institution with a significant Building Control element.

Role Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high‑performing building control team in Bolton.
• Ensure all building work complies with Building Regulations and associated legislation.
• Shape building control excellence, fostering continuous improvement and operational excellence.
• Maintain the highest standards of building safety, compliance and sustainability across Bolton.
• Provide strategic direction, decision‑making and performance appraisals.
• Represent the council to stakeholders including elected members, external agencies and service users.

About You

• Significant experience managing building control functions within a local authority setting.
• Strong management expertise with experience developing staff skills and performance.
• Ability to lead in strategic and hands‑on capacity.
• Strategic approach to leadership, continuous improvement, compliance and service excellence.
• Strong commitment to customer service and building relationships with key stakeholders.
• Experience presenting technical issues in clear terms to non‑technical audiences and influencing senior stakeholders.
