We’re on an exciting journey to transform Lloyds Banking Group and the way we shape finance for good. We’re focusing on the future – investing in our technologies, workplaces, and colleagues to make our Group a great place for everyone, including you!

Scottish Widows has been helping people prepare for the future since 1815.

This role is an opportunity to bring experience in sustainability into an investment and pensions role.

The Investment team at Scottish Widows manages approximately £200bn worth of assets on behalf of customers, investing to help their pension pots grow. You’ll also be part of a much bigger network through Lloyds Banking Group, whose mission is to Help Britain Prosper.

We’re looking for a proactive and passionate Responsible Investment Manager for a 12-month Fixed Term contract to help deliver our Responsible Investment Framework and Stewardship Policy. You’ll work across a range of environmental and social themes and activities to support a market leading proposition, which has responsible investing at its core, delivering the best outcomes for our customers.

Your accountabilities will include:

  • Leading our direct corporate engagement programme across diversity, human rights and nature, developing methodologies, conducting research and engaging with companies alongside supporting colleagues on specific focus areas.
  • Managing voting season including working with our partner Minerva to review upcoming votes and conduct research, as well as managing the approval process.
  • Supporting the senior RI manager and Head of Team on external investor collaborations and projects, providing research and discussion support. This will also include taking part in external collaborative initiatives such as ShareAction’s Good Work Coalition and PRI’s Spring.
  • Drafting content for the annual Responsible Investment report and support client requests through summarising work on engagement and voting with examples and case studies. Support additional reporting for UNPRI and Group Sustainability reports.
  • Acting as representative for LBG social work, attending modern slavery working group sessions and staying connected to Group’s work on social topics.

About you

  • A deep understanding of social and environmental topics, such as human rights and biodiversity, from study and/or experience, as well as some awareness of the sustainability regulatory landscape.
  • Confidence in ability to analyse and monitor companies’ sustainability performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Expertise in engaging companies (or other customers), and the ability to influence and manage relationships to encourage positive outcomes.
  • Experience and understanding of the investment system and the role of the pension industry as an asset owner either through direct experience or wider collaboration.
  • The ability to self‑direct and problem solve. Activities vary widely from research to engaging companies, and report writing. The individual will need to be able to explore solutions independently and report back to the team with options.
  • The ability to absorb knowledge quickly and communicate effectively with colleagues and customers.

We are disability confident. If you would like reasonable adjustments to be made to our recruitment processes, just let us know.

Required skills: Investments, Problem Solving, Report Writing, Research. Required languages: English.
