We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated and dynamic Band 8a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) to join our acute Speech and Language Therapy team working across both hospital sites. This is a time of change for our provision as our community service moves to another organisation and therefore a time of opportunity to establish this now solely acute service.
As the most senior SLT at HHFT and a member of the Therapies Leadership Team, you will lead clinical and operational management of the SLT service, based at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital with cross‑site responsibilities at Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester. You will oversee instrumental assessments (FEES and VFSS) for inpatients and community outpatients, and lead governance and overall provision of these services.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the defined clinical service, providing oversight, decision‑making and accountability for delivery.
- Demonstrate effective performance management to impact department, divisional and trust objectives.
- Work as part of the Therapy Senior Management Team to develop annual service plans (operational, capacity and activity) that achieve access and quality targets.
- Be responsible for Datix incidents, PALS concerns or complaints and risks relating to the defined clinical service.
- Line‑manage, supervise and appraise band 7 staff, supporting team members’ development.
- Provide clinical leadership in the acute setting for people with communication and enteral feeding device (EDS) needs.
- Act as a clinical specialist in dysphagia, delivering specialist assessment and advice across the Trust and maintaining governance of swallow screening and assessment.
- Conduct videofluoroscopy and fibreoptic endoscopic examinations of swallowing (FEES) and ensure safe running of clinics, competency development and governance review.
- Have skills in management of patients with tracheostomy.
