Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner
Applications are invited to join our well-established ANNP team within the Regional Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St Michael’s Hospital.
Overview: This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified ANNP to join a tertiary-level neonatal intensive care unit that provides regional tertiary neonatal care for medical patients and supra-regional services for infants with surgical, neurosurgical and cardiac problems. The NICU works closely with the regional South West Neonatal Advice and Retrieval (SONAR) team.
The ANNP role encompasses all four pillars of advanced practice with 80 % clinical and 20 % non‑clinical responsibilities for leadership and management, research and audit, and education, contributing to service improvement and professional development.
Responsibilities
- Provide high‑level clinical care across the Tier 1 rota within the Neonatal unit, Central delivery suite, Transitional Care and postnatal wards.
- Take a lead role in the immediate, critical and ongoing management of sick infants and their families.
- Interpret and act within broad policies and protocols, including safe transportation of sick infants within the Trust.
- Act as an Independent Prescriber and lead education of nursing and medical teams and families.
- Participate in leadership activities, audit and research projects, and update unit protocols and guidelines.
- Provide ongoing supervision and support for induction and training of medical and nursing staff, including mentoring trainee ANNPs.
- Serve as a positive role model and resource for midwives, GPs, nursing and medical staff from other areas within the Trust and beyond.
Qualifications and Experience
Qualified Advanced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner with experience in tertiary neonatal intensive care. Demonstrated leadership, audit, research and education experience is desirable.
