Responsibilities
- Lead and support a team of nurses, including student nurses, ensuring patient and carers advocacy.
- Plan, evaluate, and deliver patient care, including monitoring, recording, and supporting patients post‑surgery.
- Manage fluid and nutrition monitoring, delivering enteral and parenteral nutrition.
- Perform all aspects of general nursing care and maintain compliance with NMC and Trust guidelines.
- Communicate with the multi‑professional team, ensuring safe patient care and advocacy.
- Maintain a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and carers.
- Determine nursing priorities, create care plans, and report changes affecting patient care.
- Maintain and improve patient care quality through contribution to clinical benchmarking and Essence of Care.
- Respect customs, values, and spiritual beliefs of patients, providing relevant information and support.
- Safely manage drug custody, checking, and administration.
- Develop clinical knowledge and skills to care for acutely ill patients admitted via planned or unplanned routes.
- Undertake expanded practice under supervision to optimise patient care, following ward/department and Trust policies.
- Involve patients and carers in planning and delivery of care.
- Ensure effective communication within the multidisciplinary team.
- Check and maintain all equipment in safe working order.
- Manage allocated workload and supervise less experienced staff.
- Promote safe and efficient use of resources.
- Report incidents, accidents, and complaints to the unit manager and complete Trust incident forms.
- Ensure compliance with Trust policies, procedures, and clinical governance standards.
- Provide leadership in monitoring care standards and act as shift coordinator in rotation.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
- BSc in Nursing (or Diploma in Nursing as a minimum).
- Post‑registration qualification in a relevant specialty.
- Recent clinical nursing experience as a student or registered nurse.
- Demonstrated awareness of own limitations and ability to organise workload and delegate tasks.
- Ability to work as part of a team and support less experienced staff.
- Ability to problem‑solve and make decisions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Willingness to be flexible and adaptable.
- Must have appropriate UK professional registration.
- Practice Assessor/Practice Supervisor training (desirable).
- Experience within a relevant clinical setting (desirable).
- Evidence of maintaining a clinical learning environment (desirable).
- Evidence of working with learners and sound clinical nursing knowledge (desirable).
- Basic IT skills including e‑mail and word processing (desirable).
- Ability to work in changing environments (desirable).
- Committed to high standards of patient care (desirable).
