Role Overview
The role of a Band 5 within the Emergency Department is to deliver quality care to all patients. You will be supported in learning a vast range of new skills, including dressings, treatment of high‑dependency patients and triage. You will work across all areas of the department – Resus, the Ambulance Receiving Centre and triage – meaning no two shifts are the same. Dedicated Band 6 and Band 7 sisters, as well as the Practice Education team, will support your learning and training needs.
Responsibilities
Provide high‑quality nursing care and participate in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the care needs for the patient group.
Deliver compassionate, person‑centred care and treat patients, service users, their families and carers with consideration, dignity and the respect you would want for yourself or your family.
Provide relevant forms of care with minimal supervision and participate in the supervision, teaching and assessment of unregistered or junior staff and students.
Play an active part in the continued development of the ward or department and contribute to the maintenance of an environment conducive to the delivery of high standards of patient care, by promoting good communication and relationships between staff, patients, relatives and visitors.
Qualifications
Qualified Band 5 nurses or paramedics with a minimum of six months post‑qualification experience in an acute hospital setting. These posts are not suitable for NQN.
