Responsibilities

As part of the UHCW Improvement (UHCWi) System in partnership with the Virginia Mason Institute, the role involves a structured approach to removing waste and putting the patient first using a lean management system. The incumbent is expected to attend and complete relevant training and development opportunities such as Lean for Leaders, Advanced Lean Training and the Human Factors Programme, which are considered essential and a prerequisite for the post.

Clinical duties include working 40 hours per week across inpatient and day surgery theatre sessions and outpatient clinics, caring for inpatients, performing administrative work, teaching junior staff and medical students, and covering urology middle grade on call.

Urology services cover emergency and elective care, with special interests in urodynamics/urogynaecology, oncology, andrology, endo‑urology, robotic and standard laparoscopic urology. The department provides state‑of‑the‑art equipment including endoscopic and laparoscopic tools, Holmium lasers, MRI‑USS fusion workstations, LATP and regional saturation template biopsy service. The department also shares Da Vinci X and two Xi robots across a diverse robotic surgery programme, performing procedures such as robotic radical prostatectomy, radical cystectomy with intracorporeal diversion, radical partial nephrectomy and robotic exenteration in collaboration with colorectal and gynaecological oncology teams.
