Functional Tutor – NE26 Northumberland

Location: Northumberland (NE26) and surrounding areas

Hours: School hours, Monday–Friday

Flexible / Part-Time / Term-Time

We are currently recruiting dedicated and experienced Functional Tutors to provide personalised 1:1 support to pupils across the NE26 Northumberland area in home or school settings.

This rewarding role involves supporting children and young people who may require additional educational support due to SEN/SEND needs, gaps in learning, anxiety, school avoidance, or other barriers to education. You will help pupils develop essential Functional Skills and build confidence in learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and tailored 1:1 Functional Skills sessions
  • Support pupils in English and/or Maths Functional Skills
  • Adapt learning resources and teaching methods to individual needs
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, families, and schools
  • Encourage confidence, engagement, and independence in learning
  • Monitor progress and maintain accurate session records
  • Create a safe and supportive learning environment

Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year teaching or tutoring experience within the UK
  • Experience delivering Functional Skills, English, or Maths support
    • Experience working with children or young people
    • Excellent communication and behaviour management skills
    • Patient, reliable, and flexible approach
    • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
    • Driving licence and access to transport preferred

    Desirable Experience

    • SEN/SEND experience
    • Experience supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, or anxiety
    • Teaching qualification or tutoring background
