Overview
An excellent opportunity to work as part of a friendly team responsible for the co‑ordination, organisation and management of an elective waiting list. You will help maximise capacity and ensure excellent patient care within a busy, highly pressured work environment. You must be meticulously organised, motivated and able to approach daily work in a constantly changing, challenging yet exciting environment.
Responsibilities
- Co‑ordinate patients into the appropriate theatre, ensuring suitable surgeon, anaesthetist, and equipment availability and arranging special requests.
- Inform patients of all essential booking information so that they attend prepared for admission.
- Meet patients’ social needs and availability.
- Compile well‑balanced operating lists, taking into account equipment, skills, experience and preferences of the operating surgeon, to maximise theatre utilisation.
- Balance adherence to national and local wait‑time standards, clinical priority and service requirements.
- Analyse waiting list data in the Referral to Treatment database and Patient Target Lists to meet local and national wait‑time targets.
- Attend team meetings and communicate effectively with all grades of staff to build strong working relationships.
- Proactively ask and answer patient and staff queries in a timely professional manner.
- Liaise with other hospital Trusts in the South West (eg, Yeovil, Exeter, Barnstaple, Dorchester).
- Organise and prioritise the workload of self and Waiting List Clerks.
- Work under pressure and alone or with a team.
- Use technology to improve standards of care and support to patients.
- Juggle tasks amid constant interruptions.
Qualifications & Experience
- Good standard of education up to GCSE or O level (A‑C) standard.
- Computer/Word processing qualification or ECDL.
- Level of knowledge and understanding of waiting lists, hospital booking processes and medical terminology to meet required standard.
- Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel).
- Experience: Working with elective waiting lists or similar.
- Desirable: NVQ Level 3 in Business Administration or equivalent, or demonstrable relevant experience.
- Desirable: NVQ Customer Care/Service.
- Desirable: Supervisory/Management experience.
- Desirable: Management of waiting lists or similar.
