Overview

The Human Factors Operations Manager is a key leadership role within Amentum’s Technology Division, accountable for the delivery, performance, and growth of Human Factors capability across a portfolio of programmes and clients. The role combines operational leadership, people management, and business growth, ensuring the effective integration of Human Factors into complex, safety-critical environments. The postholder will work collaboratively across Amentum to deliver high-quality outcomes for clients, while developing capability and supporting the long‑term growth of the business. This is a flexible role location, with travel as required to support client delivery and business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the safe, secure, and high-quality delivery of Human Factors services across multiple projects and programmes.
  • Lead, develop and motivate teams; fostering a high-performance, supportive culture aligned with Amentum values.
  • Act as a key interface with clients, maintaining strong, trusted relationships and ensuring successful delivery of outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively across Amentum Divisions to align capability, resources, and delivery strategies.
  • Drive the growth of Human Factors capability through business development, client engagement (internal and external), and opportunity conversion.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and implementation of growth initiatives within the Human Factors capability area.
  • Ensure effective resource management, including utilisation, capability development, and succession planning.
  • Oversee project performance, ensuring delivery to agreed scope, schedule, cost, and quality requirements, identifying and mitigating risk where required.
  • Promote a strong safety culture, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards, policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Champion and facilitate continuous improvement, innovation, and knowledge sharing across the capability.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Human Factors, Ergonomics, Psychology, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • Professional accreditation or chartership desirable.
  • Proven leadership capability, with experience managing teams and delivering through others.
  • Strong commercial awareness, with experience supporting business development and growth activities.
  • Experience of working in a consultancy, engineering, or advisory environment.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to operate at senior levels.
  • Ability to balance strategic objectives with operational delivery requirements.
  • Experience within the nuclear market.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Demonstrable experience in delivering Human Factors within safety‑critical or regulated environments (e.g. nuclear, defence, infrastructure, energy).
  • Chartered status or working towards professional accreditation in Human Factors/Ergonomics (e.g. CIEHF or equivalent) or experience in working closely with Human Factors Specialists.
  • Track record of developing people and building teams.
  • Experience working across multiple clients or programmes.
  • Experience in developing high performing teams.
  • Experience in leading hybrid/remote teams working over multiple locations.
