Essential Requirements: Current Valid UK Driving Licence; Registered Building Inspector registered with the Building Safety Regulator ideally Class 3 but minimum Class 2; in process of working towards Class 3 (Principal Building Control Surveyor); Registered Building Inspector Class 2‑F

About the Role

We are seeking a professional and customer‑focused Registered Building Inspector Class 2‑F who will positively contribute to the delivery and reputation of Bolton Borough building control service.

The Registered Building Inspector plays a key professional role within the Building Control Service, ensuring the health, safety and welfare of people in and around buildings. This is achieved through effective implementation and enforcement of the Building Regulations, the Building Act 1984 and associated legislation, while delivering a high‑quality, customer‑focused statutory service.

About You

The successful candidate will bring strong technical knowledge and sound professional judgement, providing appropriate advice based on up‑to‑date technical knowledge and advanced theoretical, practical and procedural knowledge.

Detailed knowledge of all aspects of building control, together with knowledge of other areas such as planning, housing, fire service and health and safety will be crucial.

Practical and proportionate approach to enforcement and compliance, with a commitment to high standards of customer service.

Ability to work collaboratively within a shared service and political local‑authority environment while maintaining a positive, flexible and adaptable approach to change.

Excellent written, verbal, presentational and interpersonal skills enabling effective communication with staff, management, chief officers, directors, elected members and the general public.

Ability to manage and communicate complex cases/situations requiring a high level of professional expertise, assess and evaluate a wide range of information, make good decisions and solve problems while engaging with stakeholders.
