A Good Secondary Academy based in Ilsington are looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Head of Art to start in September 2026.

Role Overview

The Head of Art will lead and teach Art and Design across KS3 – KS5, working alongside a large and supportive team to ensure that students reach individual goals while driving forward the vision and success of the department.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will lead on curriculum development, departmental planning, staff support and raising standards of achievement within Art.

As a member and leader of the Art Department, you will deliver engaging and high‑quality Art lessons across Key Stage 3 and 4 (and Key Stage 5 where applicable), encouraging creativity, imagination and artistic expression.

You will plan, deliver, and assess practical and theoretical lessons while fostering a positive learning environment that supports student engagement, confidence and achievement. You will also oversee the development of the department, monitor progress and support colleagues to ensure outstanding teaching and learning across the curriculum.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent
  • Strong subject knowledge in Art and Design at secondary level
  • Previous experience teaching Art across KS3 – KS5
  • Leadership experience or ability to lead and manage a department effectively
  • Ability to plan effective and inclusive lessons tailored to diverse learner needs
  • Experience delivering a range of artistic techniques, media and creative projects
  • Good organisational skills with attention to detail
  • Effective communication skills with students, staff, parents and senior leaders
  • Ability to monitor attainment and implement strategies to raise achievement
  • Willingness to contribute to extra‑curricular art clubs, exhibitions and school events
