Senior Project Coordinator (Young Carer Project)

PO3: £45,750 – £49,056 per annum

Would you like to raise awareness, build connections and improve emotional wellbeing outcomes for young carers in one of London’s most diverse boroughs? Newham Council is committed to early intervention, prevention and equity. We are seeking a skilled and motivated professional to play a central strategic role in strengthening support for young carers and their journal.

About The Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Coordinator to lead on strategy development, awareness‑raising and partnership connection to improve outcomes for young carers and their families. Working closely with the Project Manager, the post holder will support the design, coordination and delivery of a high‑profile programme of improvement activity across Children and Young People’s Services and with external partners.

You Will

  • Support the delivery of a portfolio of strategic projects linked to the Young Carer Project, ensuring alignment with wider Children and Young People’s priorities.
  • Lead on awareness‑raising and engagement activity, strengthening understanding of young carers’ needs across internal teams and partner organisations.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including education, health, social care, voluntary and community sector partners.
  • Support the development of cross‑service and cross‑agency working, enabling more joined‑up responses for young carers.
  • Coordinate workshops, meetings and engagement events to support co‑production with young carers and families.
  • Contribute to the development of strategies, plans, reports and briefings, influencing senior leaders and partners.
  • Monitor delivery, manage risks and dependencies, and ensure progress against agreed outcomes.
  • Lead on clear, timely and engaging programme communications, both internally and across the partnership.

This is a non‑case holder role focused on system improvement, engagement, and programme delivery, rather than direct work with individual families.

About You

  • A strong understanding of services for children and young people, and the wider policy and legislative context.
  • Experience supporting service improvement, transformation or change programmes.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and report‑writing skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Confidence in facilitating workshops and supporting co‑production and consultation activity.
  • A collaborative approach, with the ability to work constructively across professional boundaries.

Why join Newham?

  • Be part of a high‑impact strategic project supporting young carers.
  • Work collaboratively across services and with external partners.
  • A supportive environment that values equality, diversity and continuous improvement.
  • Access regular supervision, learning and development opportunities.
  • Make a tangible difference to children and families at an early point.

Additional Information

  • This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
  • Some evening or weekend work may be occasionally required to support partnership activity.
  • We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusive recruitment.

Please attach your CV and supporting statement, explaining in no more than 2 A4 sides why and how you meet the criteria for this role.
