Job Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, talented server side engineer to join Developer Enablement within Citi’s CTO organisation. The role focuses on building and improving developer platforms, internal tools, and pipelines used by around 30,000 engineers worldwide. You will work on projects such as SDLC Automation and Release on Demand (RoD), helping to streamline and automate processes to deliver high‑performance tools quickly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write high‑quality code for backend services, contributing regularly beyond code reviews.
  • Shape architecture and technical roadmap, having a real voice in our decisions.
  • Stay up to date with generative AI and experiment with new models, tooling, and patterns; bring ideas back to the team.
  • Support teammates through thoughtful code reviews, unblocking, and knowledge sharing.
  • Communicate clearly and proactively across distributed teams in Belfast, Canada, and London.

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience delivering on technical projects.
  • Strong server‑side engineering skills, especially in Kotlin or Java 21 and building RESTful APIs.
  • Hands‑on experience building and running production‑grade services.
  • Proficiency with relational or NoSQL databases (Couchbase, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).

Highly Desirable Skills

  • Experience with event‑driven and microservice architectures.
  • Contract‑first API design (e.g., Swagger/OpenAPI).
  • Message queueing such as Apache Kafka, SRE/DevOps expertise, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD automation.
  • Comfortable collaborating with product, design, and UI teams.
  • AI experience is a plus.

Tools & Technologies

  • Kotlin, Java, Spring Boot, http4k, ktor, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Apache Kafka, Docker, Kubernetes, Helm, Tekton, Harness, OpenShift.
  • Flexible between Mac and PC.
