Commercial Finance Controller for SME Manufacturing

We are partnering with a £15m t/o Engineering business in Halifax. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a well-established and growing business where you will play a key role in shaping the financial direction of the company and supporting future growth plans.

The business has built an excellent reputation within its sector through quality, service, and long‑standing customer relationships. They are now looking for a commercially focused finance professional who can operate both strategically and hands‑on within a fast‑paced SME environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Managing and mentoring a small finance team
• Production of monthly management accounts
• Cash‑flow forecasting and treasury management
• Budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
• Overseeing transactional finance activities
• Managing VAT returns and statutory compliance
• Payroll oversight and HMRC submissions
• Developing financial processes, controls, and reporting systems
• Providing commercial analysis to support business decisions
• Supporting operational teams with financial insight and KPI reporting
• Preparation of year‑end accounts and liaison with external accountants

Qualifications & Experience

• ACA, ACCA, or CIMA qualification (or qualified by experience)
• Previous experience as Financial Controller or senior finance position within an SME
• Strong commercial acumen and analytical ability
• Excellent organisational and communication skills
• Hands‑on approach with the ability to operate strategically when required
• Strong Excel and accounting systems experience
• Experience within manufacturing, engineering, or owner‑managed businesses
