Job Overview

This is a full‑time post at the ST3+ (middle grade/Registrar) level, with flexibility for less‑than‑full‑time applicants. The role covers all areas of the department, including admissions, Level 2 neonatal, out‑patients, paediatric emergency and maternity units for high‑risk deliveries.

The post includes responsibilities in clinical audit, clinical governance, and teaching medical students, nursing staff and junior doctors.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide clinical care across admissions, neonatal, out‑patients, paediatric emergency and maternity departments.
  • Participate in clinical audit and governance activities.
  • Deliver bedside and classroom teaching to medical students, nursing and junior doctors.
  • Assist in the active departmental training programme for other doctors and support the education of clinical students from Oxford and other medical schools.
  • Attend weekly clinical and X‑ray meetings (Friday afternoon and Monday morning).
  • Engage in postgraduate teaching for examinations such as MRCPCH and DCH.

Training Programme

The post holder will start at a level commensurate with previous experience (likely ST3‑7) and will have a designated Consultant supervisor throughout the training period.

Person Specification

Education, Training & Qualifications

  • Completion of a Medical Degree.
  • Resuscitation training – APLS, PALS, NLS or equivalents.
  • Full registration with the General Medical Council.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Previous middle‑grade paediatric experience.

Teaching & Audit

  • Experience with audit projects.
  • Experience delivering teaching.

Interpersonal Skills

  • Good organisational skills.
  • Good communication skills.
