An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated individual to join our Day Surgery Team at Saint Mary’s Hospital, specialising in complex gynaecological procedures. This role offers a unique opportunity to work within a dynamic and highly skilled perioperative environment, supporting women through a wide range of elective and complex gynaecology pathways whilst contributing to the delivery of exceptional patient care.
We are seeking an experienced nurse with relevant operating theatre experience, ideally within gynaecology or women’s health services.
The successful post holder will demonstrate the skills and professionalism required to act as a clinical role model, mentor, and effective team player, helping to foster a positive team culture whilst supporting the ongoing development of junior staff and learners.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and organisational skills, enabling effective collaboration with the wider multidisciplinary team. They will also demonstrate sound clinical judgement and the ability to make evidence-based decisions within a fast-paced theatre environment.
The post will primarily be based at Saint’s Hospital with occasional cross-site working required to support service needs.
Main duties of the job
- The post holder will provide specialist perioperative care and clinical leadership within the Gynaecology Day Surgery service, ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality patient care throughout the surgical pathway.
- Key responsibilities include delivering expert care for patients undergoing elective and complex gynaecological procedures, supporting the day-to-day coordination of theatre activity, and maintaining patient safety, dignity, and infection prevention standards. The role involves working collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure effective patient flow and theatre utilisation.
- The successful candidate will act as a clinical role model, supporting and supervising junior staff, students, and trainee ODPs while contributing to teaching, mentorship, and staff development. Additional responsibilities include maintaining accurate documentation, participating in audit and quality improvement activities, responding to clinical risks and incidents, and ensuring compliance with Trust policies, clinical governance standards, and evidence-based practice.
- The post holder will also support the effective management of resources and demonstrate flexibility to meet the operational needs of the service, including occasional cross-site working.
