Job overview
We are looking for dynamic, motivated and flexible nurses or paramedics with relevant Emergency Care experience and qualifications to take up a leadership role within our Emergency Department at St Richard’s Hospital. This role offers the opportunity to grow and develop both personally and professionally while empowering others to succeed.
Main duties of the job
To support the senior leadership team to manage a team of nurses, ensuring the development and maintenance of high‑quality care and professional standards. Take responsibility for the day‑to‑day management of the clinical area, lead a specific area of professional practice and deputise in the absence of the Lead.
Provide a high standard of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care as required within the Emergency Department.
Utilise a variety of strategies and communicate effectively with patients and their family or carers.
Liaise with the multi‑disciplinary team, other departments within the trust and relevant external agencies.
In addition to the above responsibilities, you will:
- deliver a high standard of nursing care without direct supervision, based on evidence‑based practice;
- demonstrate excellence in ED nursing skills and act as a source of knowledge for junior staff;
- undertake and document a comprehensive and accurate nursing assessment and triage the physical and social needs of patients;
- create and utilise opportunities to promote health and well‑being of patients in care;
- influence and monitor standards of direct patient care delivery in accordance with best practice and operational protocols;
- lead a team through the shift;
- promote good working relationships with nursing and medical teams, providing appropriate advice and support;
- have responsibility for the security and maintenance of equipment belonging to the Emergency Department;
- facilitate the development of standards of care and assist with the implementation of appropriate monitoring techniques;
- deputise for senior nurses in their absence;
- respond to incidents and complaints as they arise, reporting to senior nursing staff;
- ensure all communication is presented appropriately to the different recipients, according to levels of understanding, type of communication being imparted and possible barriers such as language, culture or health conditions.
Applicants are currently required to hold a UK NMC or HCPC registration. Overseas qualified nurses seeking sponsorship under the UK Visas & Immigration Skilled Worker route may apply if the role meets eligibility criteria. Experience / Qualifications
- Valid NMC registration
- Significant experience in ED / acute care
- ED relevant skills: triage / assessment, venepuncture and cannulation
- Level 1 and 2 RCN emergency care framework
- Leadership or management course
- Evidence of additional courses relevant to emergency care / critical care
