Job Summary
Are you an early‑career pharmacist ready to take your next step in a supportive, specialist environment? University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust – one of the UK’s leading NHS Trusts – is recruiting a Senior Support Pharmacist for Healthcare of Older People based at Good Hope Hospital. The role will develop your clinical expertise and leadership skills within a forward‑thinking pharmacy team. You will deliver specialist clinical pharmacy services on the wards, mentor and lead junior staff, contribute to education and training programmes, and supervise junior and trainee pharmacists.
Main duties, tasks & skills required
Provide a specialist clinical pharmacy service to Healthcare of Older People wards, working with a complex and rewarding patient group. Day‑to‑day responsibilities include:
- Prescription screening, medicines reconciliation, and therapeutic drug monitoring
- Contributing to audit, research and service development
- Working within a multidisciplinary team and supporting frailty and other specialties
- Supervising junior and trainee pharmacists
- Providing education and training for pharmacy, nursing and medical colleagues
You will have protected learning time for postgraduate clinical pharmacy training, completion of a clinical diploma, non‑medical prescribing qualification, and access to wellbeing initiatives.
Qualifications
Essential
- Vocational Master’s degree in pharmacy (or equivalent)
- Post‑registration work experience in hospital pharmacy across a range of specialties
- Membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- Committed to and enthusiastic about providing high‑quality pharmaceutical care
Desirable
- Completed or near completion of a postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualification
- Previous participation in a multidisciplinary team
- Teaching or presenting experience to healthcare professionals or patients
- Experience with national initiatives and guidelines (e.g., NICE, NSF)
Experience and additional criteria
- Experience with medicines information queries and drug budget information
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
- Problem‑solving and critical appraisal abilities
- Empathy towards patients and carers
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise, and meet deadlines
- Capacity to manage budgets and deliver on cost‑improvement programmes
- Independent supervised work capability and initiative
- Teaching/mentoring skills and motivation of other staff
- Professional manner, well‑motivated, reliable and calm under pressure
- Ability to travel across all Trust sites as required

Salary & Benefits
Band 7 – £49,387.00 to £56,515.00 yearly. Permanent contract. Full‑time, flexible working. Working pattern includes protected learning time for postgraduate training.
